EZULWINI- His Right Honourable Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening the fight against crime, noting that this national effort is a direct mandate from His Majesty King Mswati III. The Prime Minister delivered his remarks at Sibane Sami Hotel, where the Senate Portfolio Committee is hosting a full-day workshop to review the Police Regulations Act of 2025. The gathering includes National Commissioner Vusi Manoma Masango, Senators, senior police officers, and representatives from the Attorney General’s Office.

PM Dlamini highlighted that His Majesty has directed the nation to work collectively in creating a safer and more orderly Eswatini. He said the ongoing review of the Regulations is part of fulfilling this mandate by strengthening policing standards, tightening accountability mechanisms, and reinforcing the ethical and professional conduct expected of law-enforcement officers.

Addressing participants, the Prime Minister stressed that strong police conduct remains central to public trust. He reminded officers that they carry the responsibility of representing the service with dignity, fairness, and integrity, warning that isolated acts of misconduct can erode confidence and hinder national efforts to combat crime.

Throughout the full-day workshop, the Senate Portfolio Committee is examining key components of the Police Regulations Act, including disciplinary procedures, recruitment and promotion criteria, welfare and salary structures, suspension and appeal processes, administrative responsibilities, and guidelines on the use of firearms and specialised equipment. PM Dlamini commended the Committee’s thorough approach, saying such scrutiny ensures the Regulations align with His Majesty’s vision for a secure and peaceful country.

The Prime Minister also addressed ongoing welfare concerns raised by police officers, assuring that Government continues to engage with police leadership to improve working conditions, salaries, and support systems. He emphasized that a well-supported and motivated police service is vital in fulfilling the King’s directive and sustaining national unity in the fight against crime.

PM Dlamini further urged all institutions, community structures, and citizens to join hands in confronting rising threats such as fraud, scams, gender-based violence, and road-related offences. He applauded police officers for their dedication under challenging conditions, noting that unity between law-enforcement and the public is essential to restoring safety and order across Eswatini.

As the workshop continues throughout the day, the Senate Portfolio Committee is expected to refine its recommendations before submitting the revised Police Regulations to the full House. PM Dlamini expressed confidence that the strengthened legal framework will improve accountability, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure officers are better guided and supported as they carry out their duties in line with His Majesty’s directive.
