The transformation of the Central Medical Stores into a fully fledged public enterprise has officially begun following the appointment of the Eswatini Medical Supplies Agency Board by Minister of Health Hon. Mduduzi Matsebula.

The newly established Eswatini Medical Supplies Agency, EMSA, will take over the procurement, management and supply of medicines and medical supplies from the Central Medical Stores, which previously operated as a department under the Ministry of Health.

Heading the newly appointed board is Siegfried Musizi Nyahoza, who has been entrusted with chairing the team tasked with overseeing the transition and establishment of the agency.

The appointment of the board follows the enactment of the Eswatini Medical Supplies Agency Act of 2025, which empowers the Minister for Health to establish the board in line with Section 7 of the Act.

One of the immediate responsibilities of the board will be the recruitment of a Chief Executive Officer who will lead the operations of EMSA.

Government says the establishment of EMSA is expected to strengthen the country’s medical supply chain, improve efficiency in the procurement of medicines and ensure the consistent availability of essential drugs and medical supplies in health facilities across the country.

The EMSA Board members are:

  1. Siegfried Musizi Nyahoza, Chairperson
  2. Khanyakwezwe Mabuza
  3. Thulisile Constance Gamedze
  4. Mfundi Makama
  5. Dr Charity Newton
  6. Garikai Shambira
  7. Sibongile Zondi Hlatshwayo
  8. Okwakhe Phungwayo
  9. Chief Executive Officer, yet to be appointed.
